Moving to Hawaii
Say the word "Hawaii" and one immediately thinks of Paradise! Hawaii is the most unique of the 50 states. It is comprised of 132 islands, only eight of which are big enough for people to live on. Hawaii, the largest of the islands, is also the youngest geologically. Two of its volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Kilauea, are still active. The others islands are Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kaho'olawe. Close your eyes and picture miles and miles of white sandy beaches, hula skirts, and tropical drinks with tiny little umbrellas. Don a lei, grab a ukulele, and head off to a luau.
Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959. It ranks 47th in size with land area of 6,427 square miles. Total population is 1.2 million. Hawaii is 2,390 miles from California. It has its own time zone, Hawaiian Standard Time, two hours behind Pacific Standard Time, with no daylight savings time. The highest recorded temperature is 96 degrees. Temperatures hover near 90 in August and September. Temperatures in December and January stay around 75 degrees. The ocean temperature varies from about 72 degrees in the winter to around 82 degrees in the summer. There is no place on earth like Hawaii. Like we said, it's Paradise.
