1 week before your move
-Return
movie rentals and library books.
-Clean out the refrigerator; defrost freezer. Place baking
soda or other deodorizer in both compartments.
-Perform any minor repairs around the house.
-Contact your movers again to reconfirm the date of your move
and to discuss any other special arrangements.
-Refill prescription drugs.
-Start planning what clothing items you’ll need immediately
upon arrival at your new home, and pack those in a separate
bag.
-Start planning to set aside the items you’ll need immediately
for cooking, etc. while your other property is still in boxes
or in transit. Pack a box of necessities with dishes, pots and
pans, silverware, coffee pot, can opener, toilet paper, medications,
toothbrushes and toothpaste, bed linens, blankets, and pillows
for this purpose.
-Pack a box of cleaning supplies that will be needed on move-in
day.
-After mowing your lawn for the last time, drain oil and gas
from lawn mowers and related equipment.
-Confirm that your chosen insurance policy is in place for
the day of your move.
-Be sure to collect any clothing you may have at the dry cleaner’s.
-Organize the garage door openers, sets of keys, and alarm
codes to be given to the realtor or buyer of your old home.
Collect these and put them in a designated location so they
will be easy to retrieve on move-out day.
