Your Rights and Responsibilities
Moving companies are required to adhere to certain guidelines that protect your
rights as a customer. This includes the provision of a bill of lading, and your
right to be present when a mover reweighs or recalculates your shipment. The
mover must also adhere to your specified dates of shipment pick-up and
delivery.
It is your responsibility to determine the pick-up and delivery dates, and to
notify the mover if you make any changes to your moving plans. You are also
responsible for paying transportation charges upon delivery, and in the case of
non-payment the mover has the right to refuse delivery and store goods at your
expense until payment.
It is also the mover’s responsibility to take care of claims or complaints
regarding the mishandling or damage of property. It is your right to file such
claims within nine months of the delivery date.
